Sculptural version of 'Clipeus Medusa'. Dish-shaped. The original was found in 1934 in Pancaliente, on the outskirts of Mérida. Dates from the mid 1st century a.d. and is currently at the National Museum of Roman Art. Clipeus Marmores of the Portico of the Forum was a decorative architectural element, used in the upper rooms and symbolically represented the supreme power of Rome. The material used in the sculpture is bronze and the technique is sculptural modeling and lost-wax casting.
