Sculptural version of a dish-shaped 'Clipeus', the original was found in the year 1884 in Tarragona. Dating back to the 1st century in the time of Vespasian, it is currently in the Archaeological Museum of Tarragona. The ancient Clipeus were decorative architectural elements, arranged in the upper floors and symbolically represented the supreme power of Rome. Jupiter-Ammon has marked pupils with two shallow concentric circles. The tousled, thick wavy hair ending in scrolls was equally decorative, occupying all the central section of the Clipeus. This in turn had a narrow circle of balls. The material used in the sculpture is bronze and the technique used is sculptural modeling and lost-wax casting.
