Sculptural version of the Roman object 'Anthropomorphic Balsamario'. Tthis object was found in 1956 near the Guadiana river in Mérida. The original dates from the 1st and 2nd century and is currently in the National Museum of Roman Art. The balsamarios look like they were meant to contain grains of incense or perfume, and to be used for personal hygiene by the owners. They were placed inside the tombs with the deceased person. The material used in the sculpture is bronze.
