Sculptural version of the Roman object "Balsamario with Bust of Young Faun", which was found in Merida between 1926 and 1928. It was located in a tomb, outside the old city, towards the east, at the Pontezuelas crossroads. The original is 2nd century and is currently at the National Roman Art Museum . The Faun is a demigod from the fields and forests. Balsamario features the bust of a faunillo with long hair that falls onto the sides and a garment covering the left side of his chest. Pan is depicted on a pedastal.and he has pointed, long- looped ears. carved pupils and at the top of his skull there is a hole with a lid. The balsamarios seem to have contained grains of incense or perfume and to be used in personal hygiene. Thewere placed in the tomb when their owners died. The material used in the sculpture is bronze.
